/Brief Self Introduction
Hi AZIT! This is Lucy and I'm now working at Hong Kong for 6 month internship program.
Let me give a short self-introduction for your reference,
23, Korean, Senior in Inha University, majoring in APSL (which is short for Asia Pacific School of Logistics, basically same as Logistics anyway), minor in Chinese,
Was a member of AZIT from 2022 to 2025 (i guess.. not sure), and enjoyed it really much!
/How I get the internship
I found this recruitment opening through the agent called ' Korean Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong' (= Hong Kong Korean Chamber of Commerce) They connect applicants with Korean company based in Hong Kong, regularly twice in a year. The field of the job really depends, but mostly related to Logistics, Finance, Marketing or so.

/Why I choose HK
First of all, geographically fits with my major
I really wanted to work in the field of international logistics, and as you may know, HK is the perfect place for learning it, because it's one of the center hubs in Asia.
Also my minor is Chinese, so I thought it would be great opportunity to improve my language.
Second, familiar with the culture & languages
I have lived in Shen Zhen, China, where right next to the HK, for a few years. So I feel kind of connection to the culture of here, Guangdong province. Plus I love Chinese foods.

And tough I can speak Chinese, it's not really fluent as my English. HK is almost the only place that use Chinese & English together, so that makes me putting some pressures down about my language skills, especially in business situation.
Third, opened to for foreign
HK is an international region that welcomes foreigners to live & work in. So I had much easier process to get ready for the documentations and I can stay HK for an year under Working Holiday VISA. So you definitely can meet various people from different backgrounds here!
About my works
I'm now working in forwarding company (basically, receive booking from the shipper and book the flight for them) in C/S department.
Mostly I'm contacting with shipper in HK or booking agent in mainland China, by email and sometimes phone call. My shipments are heading to PEK, HAN, TSN and CMB by air, isn't it amazing!
My work routine is as below

Checking Debit Notes for last day
•
Tracking shipments and record it on the system & updates to shipper
•
Release HAWB (documents) to shippers & agents
•
Share booking to air team to book the space for shipments
•
Make & double check the pre-alerts, MAWB, HAWB... (it's also the docs)
•
Input costing to the system
•
Etc...

Feels like I already mentioned all the good parts to live in HK..
Like I mentioned above, if you are someone who desires to be in international environment , it will be suitable place for you.

Other than that, HK has a really comfortable public transportation system (MTR. trams, ferry, bus, etc), so literally you can get anywhere you want within an hour. And they have thousands of things you can enjoy, both with the nature and the city. For example, you can go to hiking, beach swimming, temples, but also shopping, drinking in nice bars, clubbing, horse racing, etcs
I even went for a hike and watched monkeys in the nature! How attractive these trees & forest are just an hour far from the city!
Also Hong Kong Korean Chamber of Commerce offers job from different fields , and it doesn't require high career, so I think you can build experiences from wherever fields you want . Also Working Holiday VISA is valid for an year, so after 6 months, you can chose to stay there if you want, or move to other works, or come back to Korea.
Plus, I love foods here. Egg tarts, egg waffles, milk tea, dim sum, noodles~ Yum!
Well, honestly about the cons...

The weather is hot & wet compare to Korea, so always need to bring umbrella with you.

Rent is super expensive. so now I'm living with my roommate to share it
•
About the language , I thought HK only use Chinese & English, but they don't!!!
Mother Language for HK is Cantonese, which is dialect of Chinese, and it is totally different language from formal Chinese (Mandarin).

Of course, language really depends on people. Some can speak 3 languages fluently, but some only can speak a little bit of Mandarin, and some can speak only Cantonese.
In my case in work, I write emails in English, communicate with colleagues in Mandarin, but my colleagues speak in Cantonese to each other. (It depends on the company, I heard some other companies don't require Chinese, cause they mostly use Korean. Please refer to the Hong Kong Korean Chamber of Commerce websites for further info)
If your purpose is only learning English (or Chinese), I personally won't suggest you to work in HK. It might makes you more confused with multiple languages. But if your purpose is get use to business English or Chinese, I might recommend you to have work experience here!
